There’s something magical about watching a child grow up, and Dean is such a perfect example!
Dean has been part of the Block Portrait Studios family, beginning with me photographing his arrival announcements when he was still in his mom’s tummy. Then I had the honor of photographing maternity portraits and newborn portraits. Year after year, Dean and his family have continued to return to Block Portrait Studios for his Birthday Club portraits! From first steps to losing baby teeth to starting Kindergarten, we’ve watched it all unfold, one birthday at a time.
THIS YEAR: ALL ABOUT ROBOTICS
For our Birthday Club subscription, we have the birthday child choose their own outfit and any fun props that highlight who they are at this age.
For this year’s Birthday Club portraits, this cool 7-year-old knew exactly what he wanted to focus on for these portraits. Right now, Dean’s world is all about robotics, LEGOs, and coding, so obviously he built his session around these passions.
He came dressed for the part in his “Eat. Sleep. Robotics. Repeat” t-shirt, his red camouflage hoodie, and his favorite red sneakers!
As his mom says, “He’s seven going on seventeen!”
WATCHING PASSIONS & PERSONALITIES GROW
One of our favorite things about our Birthday Club is getting to see a child’s interests evolve year after year. One year it’s dinosaurs, the next it’s superheroes, and now it’s robotics and coding!
But what stays constant is watching a child’s confidence grow right along with their curiosity.
Every year, Dean walks into the studio a little taller, a little more sure of himself, and his personality shines a little brighter through the camera. Looking back at his past birthday portraits side by side, it’s incredible to see not just how much he’s grown, but who he’s growing into.

She takes the time to get on my son’s level, ask about his current interests and activities, and embrace all his playful, silly moments. Because of that, his confidence shines and every portrait captures his genuine smile & personality. We love having portraits of him each year that showcase who he was at each age, and how much he has grown! And the best part is when I find him staring up at his portraits on the walls in our home with a smile, knowing his portraits are our favorite art.”
