Saint Paul Yoga Studio, Soul Tree Yogi, owned by Ja’keta, moved into her little studio on Smith Ave in June 2021. Ja’keta wanted to open a studio somewhere that was under-served with yoga. The Westside didn’t have any yoga studios in the surrounding area, so she made her studio here. Her mission for her Saint Paul Yoga studio is to have yoga be affordable and most importantly, accessible to everyone. She believes, “You should not have to pay an arm and a leg to take care of your legs.” You probably already know, self care is difficult to make time for and intimidating when it’s expensive and in huge classes. Best of all, her intimate classes allow her to be attentive to everyone.

In 2016 Ja’keta went on a silent meditation retreat. Meditating for 16 hours a day. It was something she wanted to continue to incorporate into her life and immediately after, she found yoga. Then, in February 2021, she completed her yoga teacher training to spread the benefits of meditation to others. She has been serving people for years, working as a full-time cosmetologist. Going into business, she wears a lot of different hats and finds promotion to be the difficult part. Ja’keta is learning how to gain traction by hosting events like Pride and Vegan Fest. She wants the public to know you deserve this self-care, and she is here for them and anyone seeking self-care and confidence; she can guide them so they can spread love from a pure place. Yoga and meditation have significant benefits for a small price. Sometimes there is a stigma about who should be doing yoga, and she wants to build a space for people at all levels no matter where you are in your yoga journey.
Eventually, she wants to go into treatment centers and prisons to reach people who need the skill of meditation the most. When she isn’t working, she can be found spending time with her two-year-old son or singing and writing music.
