Senior portraits are not just about a nice photo for the yearbook. They are a full experience to celebrate this milestone for both the senior and their family.
That’s why Block Portrait Studios designed a full-service senior portrait experience built around your senior. This process takes the stress off you and your family, and replace it with clarity, direction, and portraits that actually hold meaning.
Here’s a breakdown of how our senior process works.
1. WE GET TO KNOW YOUR SENIOR
Before anything is booked or photographed, we spend time getting to know each other. Through an initial Discovery Call, we ask questions about your family and your senior. This step matters because your senior’s session should reflect their style, their personality, and their passions. We make this experience feel personal from the start.
During this call, we talk about:
Your senior’s personality and style
Your senior’s interests, passions, and activities.
What this milestone feels like for your senior, and their upcoming plans
How your senior wants these portraits to represent who they are
2. PLANNING THE SESSION
After your senior’s session is booked, we schedule a Concept Planning Meeting. Once we understand your senior’s vision, we plan everything together ahead of time so there are no surprises. We also want to know how you plan to use the portraits after the session so we can strategically photograph to fit those needs such as leaving negative space in a portrait for a text overlay on a graduation party invite.
We review:
In-studio backgrounds vs. on-location options that fit your senior’s style
2-3 outfits (we often suggest including one more formal outfit for portraits that can be used as professional headshots)
Props that matter most to your senior (sports gear, musical instruments, books, games, etc).
How you and your senior plan to use the portraits after the session (Yearbook photo, grad party invites, wall art for your home, heirloom albums, and portrait boxes)
3. THE PORTRAIT SESSION
By the time your senior’s session day comes, you and your senior are ready and know exactly what to expect. We’ve talked through all the details so there’s no awkward guessing or uncertainty.
Your senior shows up ready and prepared, and then we:
Play some music
Keep the energy relaxed and fun
Let your senior get comfortable by asking questions and talking about their interests
Guide your senior through natural posing – no forced smiles here!
Pace the session to accommodate multiple outfits and locations without feeling rushed
4. THE DESIGN & ORDER APPOINTMENT
Immediately after the session or for a later scheduled appointment, you, your partner, and your senior will come to our studio to view the portraits for the first time! During this appointment, your family will:
See your senior’s portraits for the first time
Select your favorites together
Decide on final artwork and portrait products
5. DELIVERY & INSTALLATION
After the Design & Order appointment, we will edit and retouch the selected portraits and order your final products. For final wall art, owner and lead portrait artist, Jeannine, will personally come to your home and install your final artwork that celebrates your senior.
Our senior portrait experience is about one thing: documenting who your 18-year-old is right now.
This year will go fast. While your senior is stepping into what’s next, you’re also living a milestone you don’t get back.
You have raised this beautiful human. That deserves more than images sitting on a phone.
We create portraits and finished artwork that honor this chapter so you can see it every day, not scroll past it.
From first conversation to final installation, you are fully guided. No guessing. No stress. Just a calm, intentional experience where your senior feels confident and supported the entire way.
And in the middle of it all, you get to watch something powerful.
Your senior feels seen, accepted, fully themselves.
All because of you.
