Honoring Family Through Portraits in Times of Loss

Family portraits are often associated with celebrations and milestones, but sometimes they capture something even deeper: the love, support, and connection that hold a family together during life’s most challenging moments. I recently had the honor of photographing a multi-generational family during a funeral, a session for one of my branding clients as her family faced the loss of her father. It was a powerful reminder that every client’s photography needs are unique, and I am grateful to support and be present for them through all stages of life. Daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren all gathered together, and I was moved by the quiet ways they cared for and leaned on one another, and the portraits reflect that love, unity, and the enduring bonds that carry a family forward.

In addition to capturing the family portraits, I documented moments from the service, preserving the gestures, embraces, and shared memories that often go unseen but mean so much. These images will serve as a lasting reminder of connection, love, and the ways families come together to honor and celebrate their loved ones. Photography has a unique ability to preserve emotion and relationships, and sessions like this are a powerful reminder of the beauty and strength that exist even in times of loss.
