Frequently Asked Questions About Family Portrait Sessions

Embarking on a family portrait session is an exciting endeavor that allows you to freeze special moments. Wondering what that looks like here at Block Portrait Studios? Well, we’ve answered a few frequently asked questions to share with you!

How do we prepare for our family portrait session?

Preparation is key! Before you set up a session, you schedule a Discovery Call through the Block Portrait Studios website. It’s a short getting to know you interview with me about the overall concept and who will be part of the session. Once that is over and you want to proceed, you’ll schedule the session. Before the session happens, we will sit down for a Portrait Planning and Concept Meeting, where we get into the specifics of what you want your portraits to look like and how they will look within your home.

What outfits do we wear for the session?

The color scheme and outfit choices are part of the Portrait Planning and Concept Meeting. This is the time to go over the look and feel of the experience what the outfits will be and how to coordinate with the chosen color scheme.

How long will the session last?

The duration varies but typically ranges from 1 to 2 hours. This allows enough time for various poses, candid moments, and location changes. The session also includes your Design and Order Appointment, where we finalize the portraits you want to order.

Can we bring props or include specific themes in our photos?

A: Absolutely! Props and themes add to your family’s dynamic and what the portraits will convey to others. These are things to bring up with me, as I will help navigate how they will be presented in each portrait.

What happens if the weather is unfavorable on the day of our outdoor session?

Weather can be unpredictable, and I understand that. If the weather is not suitable for an outside session, you can either reschedule or we can discuss indoor alternatives.

How do we incorporate young children during the session?

I understand how keeping children engaged during sessions can be like herding cats. I provide a “secret puzzle mission” that your children have to solve to earn a prize at the end of the session. If you are bringing snacks, I request that you do not bring candy (since it’s part of how I incentivize the children to participate). The best thing to do is talk to your children beforehand about what to expect and get them excited to have their picture taken!

Can we include extended family members in the session?

Absolutely! This will be covered in the Discovery Call. I offer Generations Family Portraits so all your loved ones can be included.

When will we receive the final photos?

Turnaround times vary, this could range from a few days to a few weeks, depending on my current workload.

Can we request specific poses or styles for our portraits?

Yes! During the session, I welcome you to interact and do poses you might want to try. My job is to guide you and take portraits that display your family’s uniqueness. Candid portraits are my favorite since they truly highlight your dynamic and bonds!

I hope the answers to these frequently asked questions provide a starting point for you and your family. Need more? Check out our FAQ page for more information on portrait experiences. I can’t wait to get in touch, smiles!!
